Property Industry Foundation calls for donations for Brisbane homeless youth facility

The Property Industry Foundation (PIF) is seeking in-kind donations to build a $2.5 million 12-bed facility for homeless and at-risk youth in Brisbane’s inner-north.

The development will involve refurbishing an existing 3-bedroom house and constructing six new dwellings – three one-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom apartments.

With the site secured and construction expected to commence in early 2020, PIF has turned to the property industry for supplies including carpet, tiles, doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, roofing, and scaffolding.

The property industry is well positioned to make a real difference in the lives of homeless young people.”

“We need it all,” said Queensland chairman for the charity, Greg Clarke, explaining that the construction timeline was tight and entirely contingent on industry donations.

“We’ve had a fantastic year so far for fundraising, which provides a base for the work we do but we need the industry to dig deep and help us to build PIF House Brisbane piece by piece,” said Mr Clarke.

“The property industry is well positioned to make a real difference in the lives of homeless young people.”

Earlier this year, PIF Victoria completed the renovation of Frontyard Youth Services – the state’s largest early intervention and crisis service for homeless and at-risk youths. This project also relied on industry donations, including materials from companies such as Harvey Norman, and pro-bono expertise from Built, Norman Disney & Young, Urbis and others.

The Melbourne centre was transformed into a space capable of offering round-the-clock support, with two floors of crisis accommodation and onsite mental health, drug and alcohol, and disability expertise.

“Giving young people a roof over their heads can have a massive impact on their life,” Mr Clarke said.
